American grocer Kroger has denied claims that it is accepting cryptocurrency payments as reported previously.
The retailer confirmed that a press release announcing that it would accept Bitcoin Cash at all of its stores, as well as for online purchases, was false. Kroger is the second retailer to recently fall prey to such a scam.
Crypto has progressively found its way into the grocery store vertical in various forms. In 2019, Safeway which is another major American grocery chain began offering Bitcoin rewards through Lolli. ATM firm Coin Cloud also announced it was preparing to install machines in supermarket locations in Houston, Texas.
Cryptocurrencies’ fundamental blockchain technology has also been scheduled to play an important role in the grocery industry.
