Metaplanet, a venture capital firm based in Japan, plans to increase its Bitcoin holdings from 1,762 BTC to 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025. CEO Simon Gerovich announced on January 5 that the company intends to utilize various capital market tools, including loans, equity, and convertible bonds, to achieve this goal.
Currently, Metaplanet is the largest corporate Bitcoin holder in Asia and ranks 15th among publicly listed companies worldwide. The firm has been actively promoting Bitcoin adoption both in Japan and globally, aiming to expand its influence within the Bitcoin ecosystem.
Analysts predict a significant increase in Bitcoin’s value, with some estimates suggesting it could surpass $200,000 in 2025. Gerovich believes that if the United States adopts Bitcoin as a strategic reserve, it could trigger a global domino effect, prompting countries like Japan to follow suit.
Metaplanet’s strategic accumulation of Bitcoin has positively impacted its financial performance. The company’s shares have risen by 950% since it began accumulating Bitcoin in April 2024, and it projects an operating profit for the fiscal year ending December 31, marking its first profit since 2017.
