Zimbabwe has been observing the increasing demand for crypto among its people and the country has also been interested to regulate the entire sector.
Zimbabwe’s government is considering utilizing Bitcoin as a legal payment option to meet the growing demand as El Salvador did. The permanent secretary and head of the office of the president and cabinet’s e-government technology unit, confirmed that negotiations with businesses are already on-going.
He also explained that authorities are trying to develop regulations to protect consumers and help the country’s financial future. Due to this the government has sought feedback from different sectors. Zimbabwe has not yet made any declarations, according to the official, which stated that the country is still in the discussion stage.
The government of Zimbabwe has accepted the digital economy framework as part of National Development Strategy , which it refers to as a means of connecting the government and business efforts in addressing the developing the idea of the digital economy.
