Digital rights advocacy group Fight for the Future and blockchain game companies have spoken against video game corporation Valve for its decision to not allow content related to cryptocurrencies or NFTs on its Steam marketplace.

The companies are requesting that Valve to reconsider their decision to forbid an entire category of software from the Steam platform and trust crypto and blockchain technology.

Sebastien Borget, president of the Blockchain Game Alliance Blockchain stated that games are pioneering a number of new concepts that will invigorate the gaming industry for players and publishers alike and to cut-off this growing sector at such a critical stage of development is a mistake.

The decision to ban content with relation NFTs and blockchain games could be financially disadvantageous to Valve as the technology grows in demand. Many games offer players the chance to earn real-world token rewards and trade in-game NFTs, providing a possible path to further crypto adoption.

Valve has previously targeted crypto and blockchain on its Steam marketplace. In 2018, the company removed a game that reportedly hijacked user computers to mine crypto.
